Five Small Fires Caused by Lightning

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., thunderstorms crept across the skies of Douglas County, bringing at least 100 down strikes and several confirmed lighting fires to mostly the southern half of the district according to a press release from Douglas Forest Protective Association. Crews from DFPA and other local fire responders confirmed five lightning fires as of 11:10 p.m. on Aug. 17 and are actively responding to other reported locations to investigate. The agency anticipates several more confirmations by morning. At this time, fires found are estimated to be less than 0.25-acre in size. Aircraft and extra resources have been ordered and are scheduled to arrive in the morning. This post will be updated as information becomes available.
