Library Friends to hold Winter Book Sale, Author Showcase
5:44 PM · Nov 10, 2022The Library Friends are hosting their quarterly book sale at the Roseburg Public Library Dec. 1-3 in the Ford Room. There will also be a showcase for 19 local authors on Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. in conference rooms inside the library. The “better book sale” will offer newer releases and other books in excellent condition – all suitable for holiday gifts and priced at $1 each. The sale will feature lots of mysteries, Christian fiction and history, in addition to the usual fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks and other genres according to a press release from the City of Roseburg. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Library’s Ford Room at 1409 NE Diamond Lake Blvd. A buck a book is half the usual price for hardback books in such good condition, said Friends of the Roseburg Public Library Vice President Marcy Tassano. “This time of year, we always put out the better books,” Tassano said in a City press release. “People have been donating so many books -- it’s great!” A special table will be set up for new releases and big art books selling for $5 each. New children’s books also will sell for $1, but there aren’t many. A bargain table will contain older donated books in good condition and library withdrawals selling for 50 cents each. All materials will be half price Saturday. For the Local Authors Showcase will be held in two conference rooms inside the main library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A writer’s group and 19 authors who have signed up so far will each have their own table. “This is an opportunity to meet the writers, discuss their work and buy their books,” said Tassano. “We piggyback it with our book sale to bring people into both events.” The library Friends hold quarterly book sales in the Ford Room. Inside the library’s main room, the Friends also maintain a permanent bookstore with free magazines and a range of books for up to 50 cents each. Those items also go on sale at half price Saturday. Proceeds raised by the Friends benefit the library’s collections, programs and projects. Over the past year, such funding has supported author visits, the Summer Reading Program, craft supplies and other projects. The Friends will accept donations of good quality books, DVDs and audiobooks on CD. Donations can be dropped off at the library front desk during library hours. The Friends also accept magazines published in the last three years. Magazines older than three years can be recycled for free at Sisters Shredding, 193 NE Exchange Drive, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those wishing to donate or buy encyclopedia sets should first contact the library at 541-492-7050 or library@cityofroseburg.org. The Friends matches sellers with buyers and does not handle physical sets because of the size and weight.
