6:26 PM · Jan 20, 2023Here is a collection of family-friendly events going into the weekend and next week. Friday, Jan. 20 All four basketball teams at Umpqua Valley Christian are playing at home. JV Girls are playing Oakland at 3 p.m. JV Boys are playing Days Creek at 4:30 p.m. Varsity Girls are playing St. Paul at 6 p.m. Varsity Boys are playing Glendale at 7:30 p.m. Concessions will be open. Umpqua Valley Art's first exhibitions of 2023 open 4 p.m. for the Opening Reception. There will be 5 brand-new exhibits and featured artists. Junior Varsity and Freshman will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. Eastwood Elementary is having a free Winter Festival 6-7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The family event will have a hot chocolate bar, a snowball toss, a Cake "Skate" (walk), a photo booth, crafts, and other activities. Saturday, Jan. 21 Read with Astra at the Roseburg Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Readers from preschool through 4th grade are invited to practice their literacy skills and complete a craft with teens from Roseburg High's Astra Club. This is a drop-in program. Walk With a Doc in Stewart Park at 8 a.m. Meet at the East end of the YMCA parking lot and bring questions. Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club is meeting for a coastal hike to the Dellenback Dunes. The club is meeting at the Northeast parking lot at the Douglas County offices at 8 a.m. to coordinate carpooling. The otherworldly scenery of the dunes do make this hike a perennial club favorite. Driving time: 1 hour, 45 minutes. Difficulty level: Moderate. Distance: 6 to 8 miles. Elevation gain: 250 feet. Roseburg Wrestling will compete against Crook County at RHS at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 Roseburg Girls Basketball will play Grants Pass. Junior Varsity will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. The Umpqua Valley Youth Orchestra will perform its free winter concert at Jacoby Auditorium at UCC at 7 p.m. UVAS presents “Wonder – the World from Behind the Lens” Tuesday, January, 24; 7:00 pm, Roseburg Public Library Stef Neyhart has long combined her love of birds, adventure and photography. She approaches all she does with joy and wonder. Lucky us, Stef will be sharing some of her favorite photos and we will have the opportunity to share the wonder of the world as she sees it from behind the lens. Wednesday, Jan. 25 Storytime with Aurora at the Roseburg Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Youth Services Librarian Aurora Ropp will be in the Children's Room with stories, fingerplays and a craft. The program is perfect for ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Thursday, Jan. 26 Storytime at the Canyonville Community Library at 10:30 a.m. Story Time is for pre-K children. It is a safe space for children and their caregivers to meet friends, read books and play games, or make a craft. Saturday, Jan 28 The Audubon Annual "Raptor Run" Liz Gayner will be leading the annual Raptor Run (raptor birding field trip) this year – which will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023. There is little walking involved, and absolutely no running! Bring your binoculars, spotting scope if you have one, and lunch. We’ll meet at the BLM parking lot (777 NW Garden Valley Blvd, Roseburg) at 8:30 AM. We will plan on some carpooling. Don’t worry if you don’t have binoculars or a spotting scope. We will share.
