Here is a collection of family-friendly events going into the weekend and next week. Friday, Feb. 10 Roseburg Girls Basketball will play Willamette. Junior Varsity will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. The Sportsmen's & Outdoor Recreation Show is open until 9 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Admission is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6-11 years old, and free for children 5 years and younger. The annual show has the annual head and horns competition, the live trout pond, a shooting and archery range for kids, the giant fish tank, and the Northwest Tour of Big Game exhibit. The show is for people who like fishing, hunting, camping, boating, RVing, ATVing, cycling, kayaking, hiking, climbing, scuba diving, and their supporting advocacy groups and governmental agencies. Paul Morgan Observatory Indoor Night Sky Viewing is open at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Umpqua Community College. The viewing will be focused on The Green Comet and Solar Systems. This is the first event at the observatory this year. The sky may be cloudy in Douglas County, but through the special digital viewing access, the observatory will be showcasing events live from other locations that have a clear view on earth. VERY limited seating - First-come, first-serve seating. Saturday, Feb. 11 Fall in love with a sea creature at the Charleston Marine Life Center this Valentine’s Day Weekend. The special marine-themed storytime will start at 10 a.m. Create your own marine-themed valentine for display at the center and explore the center after storytime to see some of the creatures found in the stories. The Peace At Home annual dance and vocal competition fundraiser, Empower, will be at Umpqua Community College for two showings and a dinner. The matinee show is at 2 p.m. at Jacoby, the dinner is at 5 p.m. at the Danny Lang Center, and the evening performance is at 7 p.m. The fundraiser supports the operating and project costs for the nonprofit’s work to end sexual assault and human trafficking and support the victims. Junior Varsity will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 Storytime with Aurora at the Roseburg Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Youth Services Librarian Aurora Ropp will be in the Children's Room with stories, fingerplays and a craft. The program is perfect for ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Thursday, Feb. 16 Storytime at the Canyonville Community Library at 11:30 a.m. Story Time is for pre-K children. It is a safe space for children and their caregivers to meet friends, read books and play games, or make a craft.
