Happy President's Day weekend! To start off the weekend, everyone can fish, clam and crab for free in Oregon on Saturday and Sunday of President's Day Weekend, Feb. 18-19, 2023. No fishing/shellfish licenses or tags (including a Combined Angling Tag or Columbia River Basin Endorsement or Two-Rod Validation) are required those two days. Both Oregon residents and nonresidents can fish for free. All other fishing regulations apply including closures, bag limits and size restrictions. Friday Roseburg Boys Basketball will play South Eugene. Junior Varsity and Freshman will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. Father Daughter Valentine Ball at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, 2 years old and under are free. Saturday Walk With a Doc in Stewart Park at 8 a.m. Meet at the East end of the YMCA parking lot and bring questions. Winchester Elementary School is having a garden day at 8 a.m. They will be building a greenhouse. Bring tools and building skills and lend a hand. Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club are going to Heceta Head Lighthouse, which is arguably the most photographed spot on the Oregon Coast. Meet at the Northwest parking lot at the Douglas County Courthouse, right behind the Roseburg Public Library by 8 a.m. to carpool. Driving time: 2 hours, 25 minutes. Hiking route: From the lighthouse parking lot, we will hike up and over Heceta Head, drop down to the beach by way of the Hobbit Trail, then return via the Valley Trail. Difficulty level: Moderate. Sunday Roseburg Cars and Coffee will be at the Cascade Self Storage overflow parking lot next to Dutch Bros. at 11 a.m. on Diamond Lake Boulevard this month. Granny's Mini Hut will be on site serving burgers and fries! This month will be spotlighting Toyota vehicles! Respect the spot - no reckless driving. Monday President's Day may impact business and/or government hours. Tuesday Roseburg Boys Basketball will play Grants Pass. Junior Varsity and Freshman will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday Storytime with Aurora at the Roseburg Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Youth Services Librarian Aurora Ropp will be in the Children's Room with stories, fingerplays and a craft. The program is perfect for ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Club de Idioma Español | Spanish Club at the Roseburg Public Library at 4 p.m. Aprende sobre el idioma y la cultura! Thursday Silent Book Group at the Roseburg Public Library will have 45 minutes of quiet group reading at 6:30 p.m. Bring your own book and beverage.
