This week starts with a Roseburg Girls Basketball home game and night sky viewing at Umpqua Community College. The week ends with the Spring Book Sale at the Roseburg Public Library. There is something for everyone! Time to get out after the snow last week. Friday, Feb. 24 Paul Morgan Observatory Indoor Night Sky Viewing is open at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Umpqua Community College. The viewing will be focused on the moon, Mars, Uranus and more. The sky may be cloudy in Douglas County, but through the special digital viewing access, the observatory will be showcasing events live from other locations that have a clear view on earth. VERY limited seating - First-come, first-serve seating. Roseburg Girls Basketball will play Sheldon. Junior Varsity will play at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity will play at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 Master Food Preserver Workshop at Glide Baptist Church at 1 p.m. The event is hosted by the Douglas County Extension Service Oregon State University to help people get more prepared for emergencies. This workshop includes information on food storage, water needs, safety, what you need in your car, and more things to think about when becoming prepared for the many situations in life. Workshop Cost: $15.00 Monday, Feb. 27 Free HIV/HCV/Syphilis testing at Umpqua Community College from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Testing is confidential and results are available in 20 minutes. Meet at the Thrive Umpqua office at 556 SE Jackson Street at 4 p.m. for an hour of downtown cleanup. Snacks and supplies will be provided. Tuesday, Feb. 28 Elementary-age youth are invited to drop in for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activity with Aurora at the Roseburg Public Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. All supplies provided. Roseburg Public Schools is inviting parents and students, present and future, to the first Winter Gathering to share their hopes and dreams for the future of the students and schools. Meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Roseburg High School Student Center. The event, supported by The Ford Family Foundation, is open to all ages and will feature free dinner and refreshments, engagement activities, free resources and books, a photo booth and more. Wednesday, March 1 Storytime with Aurora at the Roseburg Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Youth Services Librarian Aurora Ropp will be in the Children's Room with stories, fingerplays and a craft. The program is perfect for ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Weekly Game Time at the Canyonville Community Library from 12 to 4 p.m. If you enjoy meeting new people, playing board or card games, want to play your favorite game, or want to learn a new one, bring a friend or two to the weekly game time. The 13th annual Explore UCC event is back at Umpquat Community College from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event is geared towards people looking at how to launch their career, from middle school students looking forward to people looking for a change. There will be hands-on activities, robots, science exhibits, and food. Learn about UCC’s programs Forestry to Computer Science and connect with local businesses and industry leaders. The first general meeting for the Umpqua Velo Club/LUMBR will be at 6: 30 p.m. The meeting will be held upstairs at North Forty Beer Co., 435 SE Jackson St. The meeting will look at goals and events for 2023 as well as planning rides for March and April specifically. You can also pay your yearly membership dues, $20 per individual, $25 per family, and just $10 for first-time members. All abilities are welcome to the club. umpquavelo.org. Thursday, March 2 Lego Free time at the Roseburg Public will be at 3 p.m. All of the library's Legos and Duplos will be available for all ages to enjoy on a drop-in basis. Friends of the Roseburg Public Library are having their Spring Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and also on Friday and Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
