The Dining Room Play Opens UCC

5:55 PM · Mar 8, 2023

The Umpqua Community College Arts and Humanities Department is putting on A.R. Gurney's play, "The Dining Room," starting on March 16 with a high school preview night on March 15. With UCC's College and Community cast of 25 performers, the play presents a collection of scenes fading in and out of one another, showing how American families have changed over time, underscored by a character in each scene experiencing a life change themselves. A home's dining room was once a source of pride, which also cemented the position of each person within the family by their place at the table. As today's open floorplan homes bring us closer together and relaxes family roles, some might feel nostalgic for the formal dining room when seeing this play. Douglas County high school students and parents are invited to the High School Preview Night and a post-show discussion with the cast. on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. Assistant Director Kat Grammon, a UCC Merit Student Scholar in Theatre Arts, will also talk to students about being a theater student at UCC at the post-show cast discussion. "I look forward to meeting students and parents to discuss future productions as well as our Friday Career Academy for high school students," Professor Bart McHenry said. "Thank you for your enthusiasm for UCC Theater Arts!" Mar. 16, 7 p.m. Mar. 17, 7 p.m. Mar. 18, 3 p.m., 7 p.m. Mar. 19, 3 p.m. Location: UCC Whipple Fine Arts Center $10 cash admission at the door
