On a recent camping trip at Diamond Lake, I came across a rare woodpecker! After cleaning up our campsite we were about to leave when I decided to do one last check of our campsite to make sure we didn't leave anything. I got out of our car and walked over to a small patch of pines, as I was standing by them looking around our campsite I heard a pecking sound right behind me and when I turned there was a rare Red-naped Sapsucker sitting on a branch a few feet away at eye level! Red-naped Sapsuckers aren’t generally found in Douglas County so this was a pretty cool sighting!
