Fawn Resting In The Shade
6:13 PM · Aug 17, 2023A couple of weeks ago I found this fawn along with two others resting in the shade of a large oak! Fawns have a unique spotted coat that helps them blend into their surroundings. This camouflage provides them with protection from predators in their natural habitats. As fawns grow older, their spotted coats gradually give way to a more uniform coloration. Newborn fawns have a natural instinct to stay still and hidden when approached by potential threats. They will often lie down and remain motionless to avoid being noticed. While fawns have some natural predators, including coyotes, wolves, and mountain lions, their camouflage and hiding behavior help increase their chances of survival during their vulnerable early months.
