Children who attend will receive a ticket for a free meal at a food truck of their choice while supplies last, a promotion funded by event sponsors. Activities include the Portland Water Bureau's WOW (Water on Water) demonstrations, balloon artists, face painting, and henna tattoos. Admission is free.

All proceeds from the weekend's events benefit United Community Action Network, one of the partner organizations on the campus. A charity golf scramble follows the fair on Sunday, May 3, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Bar Run Golf & RV Resort. Several categories of items will not be accepted: loose batteries, hazardous waste, vacuum cleaners, gas-powered tools, large kitchen appliances, glass-containing items such as microwaves, light bulbs, and lighting ballasts. According to the press release, the world generates roughly 50 million tons of electronic waste annually, with only about 20 percent recycled properly. Improperly handled e-waste can leach heavy metals and toxins into soil and water and is a leading cause of landfill fires.

Golfers will also compete in longest drive and closest to the pin contests throughout the round. A $5,000 prize awaits anyone who records a hole-in-one on the par 3 15th hole, with additional ace prizes available on other par 3s.

Entry costs $600 per foursome or $150 per individual, with a cart included. A 50/50 raffle will also be held during the event. All proceeds benefit United Community Action Network, a nonprofit serving families across Douglas County that operates on the Jerry Bruce Community Campus.

Winston, OR — K9 Nike, a Belgian Malinois who has served in law enforcement for more than eight years, will retire from the Winston Police Department on March 1. Born in the Netherlands in 2016, Nike was trained in the Dutch police dog sport of KNPV before serving with the Roseburg Police Department and transferring to Winston in 2022. Over his career, he was deployed approximately 110 times and recorded 65 captures, recovering evidence including drugs, guns, and knives. After retirement, Nike will become an ambassador for the Friends of the Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs. Ownership will transfer to his handler, Officer Cordell, and Nike will live at home with Cordell's family. A community retirement gathering will be held on Friday, March 6, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Winston Community Center, 440 SE Grape Avenue.

K9 Nike to Retire From Winston Police Department

The 4th annual Blocktober Fest will take place Saturday, October 4, in downtown Roseburg from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free community festival will feature live music, food, beer, wine, and local vendors.

Performances include That Other Band from 12 to 1:30 p.m., Mother Smuckers from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and headliner Joseph from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Organizers describe the event as family-friendly and open to all ages.

The Family Stage will also feature a visit from Wildlife Safari, bringing an up-close experience with animals to entertain and educate festival-goers of all ages.

In addition to live music and performance, the festival showcases:

• Downtown Businesses, Local Vendors & Community Partners: Explore regional makers, artisans, and retailers alongside informational booths from local programs and organizations, all stretching along SE Jackson and SE Main streets.

Roseburg High School’s football team will be hosting a car wash on Friday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Roseburg High School. The car wash is a fundraiser to support the team’s upcoming football camp. Come stop by for a car wash and consider making a donation! All proceeds go towards the camp experience for student athletes!

ROSEBURG, OR – April is an exciting month at the YMCA of Douglas County, with a variety of activities and programs aimed at promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Youth Sports Track & Field is Back!
The YMCA’s Youth Sports Track & Field program has officially returned, and registration kicked off on April 1. With limited spots available, families are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. The program culminates in a fun and exciting track meet at Roseburg High School on May 31 for all participants.

YMCA Partners with Roseburg Junior Cheer
The YMCA of Douglas County is thrilled to announce its recent partnership with Roseburg Junior Cheer, making the program an official YMCA youth sports offering. Roseburg Junior Cheer serves as the official feeder program for Roseburg High School Cheer and Stunt, cheers sideline for Roseburg Youth Football, competes statewide, and actively engages in community performances and volunteer activities.

Healthy Kids Day – April 26
Mark your calendars for Healthy Kids Day on April 26! Join us from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Y Gym (Parkview Skating entrance) and parking lot as we celebrate and promote healthy living for youth and families. This event will include a variety of fun activities, valuable resources, and an emphasis on water safety. Plus, a limited number of free youth lifejackets will be available.

Upcoming Aquatic Courses
As part of its ongoing commitment to youth development, the YMCA is offering two upcoming aquatic courses: a swim instructor course and a lifeguard course. Registration for both courses is open now, providing essential training for individuals looking to develop lifesaving skills and serve their community.

Expanding Fitness Opportunities
The YMCA also offers over 20 different fitness classes and continues to add more to meet community needs. Most recently, the Y introduced a Wim Hof Breathing class, providing members with unique techniques for improving physical and mental well-being.

YMCA of Douglas County Announces Exciting Youth Programs and Events This April

The Roseburg Lions Club continues its sweet tradition of community service with their annual See's Candy holiday fundraiser. From November 22 through December 24, residents can purchase their favorite See's treats from the yellow trailer in Sherm's parking lot on Stewart Parkway. The stand will be open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, except for Thanksgiving Day.

Since 1928, the Roseburg Lions Club has been a cornerstone of service in Douglas County, providing vital sight and hearing assistance to both adults and children. The organization conducts annual vision and hearing screenings in local grade schools and offers college scholarships to area students.

This holiday candy sale represents the club's major fundraising event of the year, with an additional sale planned around Easter. Don't miss your chance to support this worthy cause while stocking up on holiday treats!
