In PURs Stage 1 all campfires are prohibited outside of Forest Service-constructed fire rings in designated recreation sites under a Forest Order.

Stage I PURs:

All campfires, charcoal or briquette fires, pellet fires, and any other open fires are prohibited outside Forest Service-constructed fire rings within designated recreation areas. Campfires fueled by pressurized fuel/propane are allowed. Campfires in wilderness are not prohibited.

Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, building or area cleared of flammable material at least three feet in diameter.

Internal Combustion Engine – Chainsaws – No chainsaw use is allowed from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a one-hour fire watch requirement at all other times.

Motorized vehicles may operate only on designated trails and roads. Use of vehicles off National Forest system roads is prohibited except in an area devoid of vegetation within 10 feet of roadway or minimal travel over bare mineral soil to access dispersed camping sites.

On Friday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) responded to a reported natural cover fire located approximately 5.6 miles southwest of Winston, Oregon.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an estimated 5-acre slash fire burning within an inactive timber harvest unit. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive initial attack utilizing four engines, a dozer, a water tender, and overhead command staff. Additional resources were requested and continued to arrive throughout the early morning hours.

Initial attack efforts successfully halted the fire's forward progression. The fire is now estimated to be between 12 and 15 acres in size and is 100% trailed, with approximately 40% of the fire perimeter secured with hose line.

Day shift resources have rotated into the incident and currently include personnel and equipment from the Oregon Department of Forestry's West Lane and Southwest Oregon districts, two water tenders, two dozers, and two contracted 20-person hand crews.

Visible smoke may remain in the area as firefighting resources continue suppression and mop-up operations throughout the day. Residents and travelers in the vicinity should expect to see smoke and fire personnel working in the area.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.

Firefighters stopped the fire's forward spread quickly, and a DFPA dozer helped establish containment lines around the full perimeter. Mop-up operations were expected to continue today, and DFPA said limited smoke may still be visible in the area.

DFPA & Glendale Fire are actively engaged in an aggressive initial attack on an estimated 7–8 acre slash and timber fire near McCollough Creek Rd, northwest of Glendale.
