The company, founded in 1954 by Dick Adams and Norm Jacobsen, purchased the Perkins veneer plant in Dixonville in 1960 and has since operated under the stewardship of the Adams family across four generations. It has been a vital local employer, producing high-quality veneer and contributing to the regional wood products economy.

“After careful and difficult consideration, we have made the decision to close our operations,” said Art Adams, owner of Nordic Veneer. “Our industry has faced sustained wood supply and market challenges, structural realignment, and foreign competition. Despite our team’s hard work, recent investments in efficiency, and deep commitment to this business, sustaining operations is no longer viable under current market conditions.”

Nordic Veneer has long been defined by its family leadership and strong ties to the community, including support for local hospitals and cancer centers, libraries, schools, healthcare systems, Umpqua Valley Christian School, and early efforts to bring Christian radio to the area through translators.

The company will work closely with its dedicated team of employees to provide transition support, and is actively working with employees on job placement resources. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 3:30 p.m. at Brown Park, located at the corner of Harvard Boulevard and Francis Street in southwest Roseburg.

Brown Park spans just under one acre and features modern, inclusive playground equipment designed for children of all abilities, accessible pathways, ADA-compliant parking, open green space, and other amenities that encourage recreation and community connection.

The project was made possible through years of planning, community collaboration, generous local donors, grant funding, and the dedication of City staff. A local family donated $150,000 to help the City purchase the property, which also provided a portion of the required local match for funding through the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department's Local Government Grant Program.

The City will also recognize the lasting contributions of those who helped make Brown Park possible. A memorial bench honoring the former property owner, whose vision of expanding Brown Park helped make the project possible, has been installed in the park. Additional improvements are still to come. The City has purchased a pavilion that is scheduled to be installed later this summer.

"This project is the result of strong community partnerships and a shared commitment to expanding recreational opportunities in Roseburg," said Velorie Ligon, Parks and Recreation Program Manager. Brown Park Ribbon Cutting Set for July 8 in Southwest Roseburg

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) is lowering fire restrictions for both the public and industry, effective 12:01 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2026.

Recent precipitation across DFPA-protected lands has improved fuel moisture conditions, prompting the agency to drop Public Use Restriction Levels to LOW for all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.

Despite the reduction, DFPA reminds residents that fire season remains in effect and that caution should still be used when handling fire or equipment outdoors. Debris burning, including debris piles and burn barrels, remains prohibited at all times.

Under the LOW restriction level, non-industrial power saw usage, cutting, grinding, or welding of metal, cutting, trimming, or mowing of dried, cured grass, and power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property is allowed all day.

Off-road driving is allowed with landowner permission for motor vehicles, including motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, but only on improved roads free of flammable vegetation, except for cultivating and harvesting agricultural crops. Each passenger vehicle traveling on forestlands, except on state highways, county roads, and driveways, must carry an axe, a shovel, and one gallon of water or a 2½-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher. ATVs must carry a 2½-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher.

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) also decreases to Level 1 at the same time, within the Douglas Forest Protection District, all regulated use areas, and all forestlands within one-eighth mile of those areas, including lands managed by the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) is lowering fire restrictions for both the public and industry, effective 12:01 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2026.Recent precipitation across DFPA-protected lands has improved fuel moisture conditions, prompting the agency to drop Public Use Restriction Levels to LOW for all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.Despite the reduction, DFPA reminds residents that fire season remains in effect and that caution should still be used when handling fire or equipment outdoors. Debris burning, including debris piles and burn barrels, remains prohibited at all times.Under the LOW restriction level, non-industrial power saw usage, cutting, grinding, or welding of metal, cutting, trimming, or mowing of dried, cured grass, and power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property is allowed all day.Off-road driving is allowed with landowner permission for motor vehicles, including motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, but only on improved roads free of flammable vegetation, except for cultivating and harvesting agricultural crops. Each passenger vehicle traveling on forestlands, except on state highways, county roads, and driveways, must carry an axe, a shovel, and one gallon of water or a 2½-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher. ATVs must carry a 2½-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher.The Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) also decreases to Level 1 at the same time, within the Douglas Forest Protection District, all regulated use areas, and all forestlands within one-eighth mile of those areas, including lands managed by the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
