Douglas County Highland Games and Clan Gathering Coming this Weekend

The event this year is August 24 and 25, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM at Henry Estate Winery. The festival is both a celebration and education of the seven Celtic nations. There will be 24 Celtic clans and societies represented. There will be food and goods vendors as well as an on-site pub. The Celtic band Na Rósaí from Portland will be headlining. The Eugene Highlanders Pipe Band will be the bagpipe band this year. Rovers & Dragons, Rakes of Kildaire, and White Horse will also appear as will a Scottish Sword dancer. The state championships for both the heavy athletics and edged weapons competitions will take place this weekend. For Edged Weapons, competitors will show skills in knives, axes, spears, bow and arrows, and swords. The Heavy Athletics competitions are based in Scottish tradition and include Caber Toss, Stone Put, Hammer Throw, and Sheaf Toss The athletes begin competing at 9:00 AM on both days. There will also be a Haggis Eating Contest and a Bonnie Knees Contest! Admission is $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for children age 7-12. There is a family rate for $37 which includes 2 adults and 3 or more kids.
