6.3 Magnitude Earthquake Occurred this Morning 176 Miles West of Bandon. Biggest Off Oregon Coast in 11 Years

3:54 PM ยท Aug 29, 2019

A tsunami is not expected to be generated at this location because it's a strike-slip fault, where the ground is moving side to side. Basically need a thrust quake to generate much of a tsunami, where the ground moves vertically during the quake. The quake happened at a depth of 3.5 miles and took place in the same fault zone as the 5.4 earthquake that occurred at this location 13 days ago. Residents in Bandon did not report feeling this quake. This is not connected to the Cascadia subduction zone and things have been quite active at this location in recent months. ๐Ÿค™
