Ashland scored first on a Sam Austin goal in the 30th minute. Scott Gustafson of Ashland scored two minutes later in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0 Grizzlies (2-1). “We came out strong in the first 20 minutes,” Roseburg head coach Jim Giraudo said. “When Ashland got their goal in the 30th minute, we kind of put our heads down a little bit. We let another goal in, after two minutes. We tightened up but played them strong the rest of the first half.” The Indians (0-3) have lost three games in a row to start the season. But feel optimistic about where they sit as they make early season adjustments. “You have to find that balance. You want to win a game but you what’s more important is finding the right formation and putting the right players in the correct position in nonconference,” Giraudo said. “We have the right setup now. Sometimes it takes a couple games to get that down we feel we have it down now. Now we’re more concerned with the victories.” Roseburg plays Willamette at home next Tuesday at 6 p.m. in their last nonconference match before Southwest Conference play begins on September 20 against South Eugene. “The team is possessing well, were moving the ball out of the back,” Giraudo said. “The defenders are linking up to the midfielders very well. We just need to finish the midfielders linking up with the forwards and getting that final touch in the goal.”
