Sutherlin Girls Basketball Wins Willamina Tournament

Sutherlin girls basketball coach Josh Grotting got his 400th career win Saturday as the Bulldogs beat Willamina 57-23 to win the Willamina tournament championship. Sutherlin had four scorers in double figures. Micah Wicks, Amy Dickover and Jadyn Vermillion all had 13 points apiece while Kiersten Haines added 12 points. “We played really well. Carmen and Abby played great defensively.” Grotting said. The Bulldogs improved to 7-0 on the season. Grotting said it makes him grateful for all the kids he’s had an opportunity to work with along with his assistant coaches. “We have had some awesome kids and each graduating class truly cares about the program more than individual accomplishments,” Grotting said. “I have a number of former players coaching in our district and other districts. Nothing makes me happier than seeing them succeed. It’s a true honor when they come back to help or watch games.” Sutherlin returns to action next Friday with a tough test when they host 4A Philomath (7-0) who are ranked first in the 4A OSAA power rankings.
