3rd Ranked Sutherlin Girls Basketball beats Monroe 58-42
1:42 AM · Jan 3, 2020The Sutherlin girls basketball team beat Monroe 58-42 Thursday at the Crusader Classic New Year’s Invitational at Salem Academy high school. The third ranked Bulldogs (9-1) overcame a 24-22 halftime deficit. Sutherlin outscored Monroe 21-9 in the third quarter and 15-9 in the fourth quarter. Paige Bailey led Sutherlin with 18 points while Amy Dickover added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Micah Wicks also had 11 points. Jadyn Vermillion and Kiersten Haines both added six points apiece. “We were really sluggish in the first half,” Sutherlin coach Josh Grotting said. “Paige got us going in the second half and our defense started rotating and communicating. It was an ugly game.” Sutherlin had seven 3-pointers in the game and hit 11 two-point field goals. The Bulldogs went 15-17 from the free throw line. Sutherlin plays Portland Christian tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. “We’re playing pretty well at times, but today was a little step backwards in terms of intensity.” Grotting added.
