Sutherlin Girls Basketball Improves to 7-0 in Far West Play

5:26 AM · Feb 5, 2020

The Sutherlin girls basketball team beat Cascade Christian 49-36 Tuesday night at home. The No. 2 Bulldogs (19-2) moved to 7-0 in Far West League play with three league games remaining. If they win Friday night against Brookings, they would clinch the league title. Junior post Amy Dickover rested with a sore ankle so the Bulldogs relied on their guard play according to Sutherlin coach Josh Grotting. "Jadyn Vermillion and Paige Bailey both had good games at both ends of the floor," Grotting said. "Big game Friday at Brookings. We wrap up the league title with a win." The Bulldogs face the second place Brookings-Harbor Bruins (15-5, 5-2) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. on the road. "We have to be ready defensively to cover the perimeter," Grotting said. "Brookings is one of the better outside shooting teams in the state and have a great home court advantage. It will be a playoff atmosphere."
