Oregon Coronavirus Update for Tuesday March 17th

There are now COVID-19 cases discovered in all 50 states. The US now has 6,509 cases, with 1,846 new cases in the past 24 hours and 29 new deaths. A 60-year-old Lane County woman has died at RiverBend Hospital, the second death related to coronavirus in Oregon. 😢 The woman called 911 on March 14 and passed away in the emergency room on March 14. Because of the relatively low fatality rate for COVID-19, this death likely signals a much larger presence of the virus in Lane County than the two official cases that officials have announced. Oregon Gov announced today that schools will be closed in Oregon at least through April 28th. California Gov announced today that CA schools were likely done for the year. Kansas announced they were already cancelling school for the remainder of the year. Oregon will no longer allow visitors at nursing homes and other group care facilities in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus among people most at risk from the disease, Gov. Kate Brown announced Tuesday. This applies to adult foster homes and group homes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People will still be allowed to visit their loved ones who are near the end of life, the governor said.
