Douglas County Coronavirus Update for Friday April 10
No new cases again for Douglas County 👍Total remains at 12, no deaths. Oregon had 4 new deaths and 51 new cases. Something interesting I've noted over the past two days. Of the 10 coronavirus deaths from yesterday and today, 7 of the 10 passed away at home. I think it's a good reminder for us all to check in via phone regularly with older loved ones during this time. A friend of mine shared the story of his uncle in Seattle recently. His uncle was hunkered down at home with some covid symptoms and his children were checking in on him regularly and then one day they couldn't get ahold of him. So they sent an ambulance over to check on him and sure enough, he was having significant issues in his battle with the virus. Sadly he ended up passing away after several days in the hospital. But it's another reminder to regularly check in on loved ones, friends and even neighbors. The US had two milestones today, both sobering. We went over 1/2 million cases today with 33,752 new cases, and also had our first day with over 2k deaths. We've now had 18,747 deaths. 😞 820 of those deaths were from New York. I know it's hard to imagine the devastation going on elsewhere in the country when we have not experienced it here. Dr. Bob's video tonight gives a personal connection to the hardship going on in New York. He has a cousin that is a police officer there who has been tasked with going to homes where someone has passed away and waiting for the coroner to arrive. The backlog is so great that sometimes he has to wait all day for someone to arrive. It's a very sobering picture. We have much to be thankful for here in Douglas County. I hope you all are able to spend some time outside enjoying the sun on this beautiful Easter weekend 🤙
