Dane Tornell Will be the Next Girls Basketball Coach at UVC

Dane Tornell will be the new coach of the Umpqua Valley Christian girls’ basketball team this fall after stepping down from the same position at Roseburg High School. Tornell brings over 16 years of coaching experience to the Monarchs who didn’t field a team in 2019-20. “I have coached 3 undefeated teams, been a part of a 6A state championship team and have had a few seasons when winning was very difficult,” Tornell said. “I have an energy that gets girls and their families excited about playing basketball.” Tornell was the head coach at Roseburg for the last two seasons and was an assistant coach there for six years before that. “Developing a culture of high performance and work ethic and getting to know families is my greatest passion,” Tornell said. “It is a very hard sport that takes a lot of encouragement. I want UVC to have too many girls wanting to play basketball where we need two or three teams.
