Mercy Health's Shaw Heart And Vascular Center Receives $85,000 Grant
1:55 AM · Aug 25, 2020Mercy Foundation has received a generous grant of $85,000 from the Walden W. and Jean Young Shaw Foundation for CHI Mercy Health’s Shaw Heart and Vascular Center. These funds will be used to upgrade the cardiac catheterization labs (cath lab) at Mercy Medical Center. The cost of the new cath labs comes with a significant price tag of approximately $3 million dollars. With the help of funders like the Shaw Foundation and others, almost 70% of the funding has been raised. Additional outreach to raise the remaining 30% continues. Cath labs are used to diagnose and treat a range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions, ranging from heart attacks to occluded (blocked) coronary and peripheral arteries. Cath lab equipment is highly specialized and provides images in real time that allows physicians to place stents in both coronary and peripheral arteries. Along with cardiac procedures, interventional radiology, and device implants are also performed in the Shaw Heart and Vascular Center’s cath labs. “The Walden W. and Jean Young Shaw Foundation has been an amazing partner over the years. Their financial support has helped ensure that local residents have access to excellent heart center equipment and services needed in our community, “says Lisa Platt, Mercy Foundation president. “We are so grateful for their continued support.” Shaw Heart offers comprehensive services from diagnostic procedures to non-surgical interventions and cardiac rehabilitation.
