Deer Creek Village Continues Progress Towards Opening In Early 2021

Progress continues to be made on NeighborWorks Umpqua’s newest multifamily housing development Deer Creek Village. The project is located at 2843 NE Douglas Avenue just east of Eastwood Park. The 68 unit development is the largest multifamily project to be built in Roseburg since NeighborWorks Umpqua’s previous Veteran housing project in 2013. The project is expected to be done in early 2021 and NeighborWorks Umpqua plans on taking housing applications in October and November. With a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, Deer Creek Village will cater to individuals and small families making less than 60% of the Area Median Income and individuals at or under 30% AMI with a disability, including severe mental illness. The project will have a preference for Veterans, especially low-income Veterans with special needs, but will not serve Veterans exclusively. Deer Creek Village is a single three-story building that features a main lobby with a mail center, manager’s office, meeting room, and storage areas for bikes and other items. “The project started last summer with groundbreaking. The project has a focus on veterans along with families. It is to bring more housing to Douglas County,” NeighborWorks Communications Director Suzi Pritchard said. “That’s important for Roseburg because 30% of the residents are rent-burdened. It has a focus for veterans and then second would be low-income families.” The building’s design includes a central courtyard, providing an outdoor gathering and green space for residents. There will be a play area in the courtyard as well. The project has been funded from $17 million in grants and in part due to a major grant from Oregon Housing & Community Services. Rose and Robert Rothstein donated the land to NeighborWorks Umpqua in 2015. It was the couple's hope that it would be used to create housing that is safe, healthy, and affordable.
