Oregon Coast Aquarium Reopens Saturday, January 30th

The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport along the Oregon Coast is set to reopen tomorrow, Saturday, January 30th. The aquarium has been closed since December 19th due to Covid-19 restrictions. Tickets can be purchased at the Aquarium and do not need to be purchased ahead of time. Here are some frequently asked questions on their website. Indoor One Way Paths At this time all of our indoor areas are still one way. Please be aware that our Passages of the Deep and indoor galleries will only be accessible via the approved entrances. Animal Feedings and Presentations Cancelled While we are in this stage of opening, all timed feeding and animal presentations have been canceled. Am I Required To Wear A Face Covering? Yes, all guests are required to wear a face-covering inside and outside to protect our animals, staff, and volunteers. Face shields are available for those who require an ADA accommodation. Children under 5 are not required to wear a face covering. Children 5 and older are required to wear a face covering. What Is Included With Admission? All of our permanent exhibits and part of Seapunk, with the exception of our Octopus Cave. We also have a new exhibit, Indo-Pacific Coral Reef. What Is Closed? The following are closed at this time: Octopus Cave Café Touch pool Kids play area What Is The Advantage Of Purchasing Tickets Online Before My Visit? By purchasing tickets online, touch and personal interaction are greatly reduced. This benefits both our guests and our staff. Cash is not accepted at admissions. Can I Bring In My Own Food Or Beverages? There is no outside food allowed inside the facility. You are allowed to bring your own reusable water bottle and fill at our filling stations. Are Wheelchairs, Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV), Strollers Or Double Strollers Available For Rent? Yes, they are available for rent. They will be sanitized before and after use. The prices remain the same as always. How Have The Animals Been Impacted? The entire time we were closed the animal care team was here providing normal care and feeding routines. Right now there is no evidence that the virus can spread to the animals but we are taking extra precautions (ex. wearing masks/ face coverings during interactions). Are Animals Allowed In The Visitor Complex? Due to the health and safety concerns for Aquarium animals, pets are not allowed past the front gates. The exception to this rule are certified service animals, including seeing-eye or hearing-ear dogs. The ADA defines a service animal as ANY guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. If they meet this definition, animals are considered service animals under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a State or local government. What Procedures Do You Have In Place To Minimize The Spread Of Illness At The Aquarium? Public Safety Face coverings required for all visitors, staff and volunteers; free disposable face coverings available at entrance; free face shields for ADA accessibility Plexiglass barriers at admissions and the coffee bar No cash at admissions; Touchless payment pads Physical distancing and limited group sizes One-way indoor pathway Hand Sanitizer stations throughout Aquarium grounds Removal of high-touch objects such as penny smashers, shark jaws, etc. Closure of high-touch areas such as the touch pool, kids play area and the cafe No handouts, maps, brochures or self-guided materials Separate exit Signage Safety protocols and procedures in parking lots and on path to entrance Visit logistics and reminders on entry path and throughout. Social distancing reminders/indicators Proper way to wear a face mask at entrance Required OHA signs posted in English and Spanish Warning notices on potential high touch surfaces (ex. exhibit windows) Sanitation Frequent disinfection of surfaces Restrooms: doors propped open, every other restroom sink closed, increased cleaning & disinfecting schedules Anything Else I Should Know?
