Douglas County Seniors 80+ Now Eligible for COVID Vaccine

8:39 PM · Feb 8, 2021

(DCCRT) Today, the first group of Douglas County Seniors are eligible to make an appointment to get the COVID vaccine. Our Senior Vaccination Plan in Douglas County is to have seniors get the COVID vaccine where they get their regular health care or flu vaccine. On Friday, February 5, 2021, we published the Douglas County Senior Population COVID Vaccination Plan. According to the State/OHA’s vaccination eligibility plan, those over 80-years-of-age are now eligible to receive the vaccine starting today, Monday, February 8, 2021**. As a remember, there are many more seniors who need and want vaccine than there are available doses. Vaccine supply is beyond our control, but we continue to submit requests and strive to get as much vaccine sent to Douglas County as possible. Over the next 5 weeks, about 30,000 Douglas County residents will become eligible for the vaccine, but we expect to only receive a small fraction of the doses needed to vaccinate them. For example, this week we expect to only receive 700 doses to vaccinate the 7,200 seniors in our county. The list of vaccinators below is not a guarantee they will have vaccine; it represents organizations that have signed up to help vaccinate. We ask for your patience as we work with the State and OHA to acquire more vaccines. The current COVID vaccine eligibility plan from the State and OHA, is to add new eligible groups each week, however, again, we want to stress that even though you are eligible to get the vaccine, it does not mean there are available vaccines to administer. Next week, starting on Monday, February 15, 2021, those over 75-years-of-age, will be eligible to get the vaccine. Then starting on Monday, February 22, 2021, those over 70-years-of-age, will be eligible to get the vaccine. Then starting on Monday, March 1, 2021, those over 65-years-of-age, will be eligible to get the vaccine. Please, be patient and please do not call to set up an appointment for the vaccine if you are not on the current eligible list yet. We expect our list of vaccinators to continue to grow, and we will provide updates as the list changes. - For seniors, who are 80-years-of age or older, who’s primary care doctor or regular health care provider is on our list of local vaccinators, they can call them starting today, February 8, 2021 to set up an appointment for the COVID vaccine. Because the COVID vaccines have very specific handling constraints, all providers will be doing vaccines on a scheduled appointment only basis. Medical and Urgent Care Clinics will not and cannot do walk-in appointments. - For those seniors, who are over 80-years-of age or older, who do not have a primary care doctor or regular health care provider or their doctor/provider does not offer the COVID vaccine, can get the COVID vaccine at one of our cooperating pharmacies, or at other clinics who have agreed to provide the COVID vaccine. Please call your pharmacy starting on February 8, 2021 to set up an appointment for the vaccine. Because the COVID vaccines have very specific handling constraints, all providers will be doing vaccines on a scheduled appointment only basis. Our pharmacy partners will not and cannot do walk-in appointments.
