Starlink Satellite Internet Now Available in Douglas County

Today I received a notification that Starlink Satellite internet service is now available to some people in Douglas County. I had signed up to be notified when service was available to my address in Roseburg. Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being constructed by SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk. To date, Starlink has launched over 1,000 satellites into orbit. The significance of Starlink internet access is that someone could live very remotely far from traditional high-speed internet resources. According to Starlink, "users can expect to see data speeds vary from 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s and latency from 20ms to 40ms in most locations over the next several months as we enhance the Starlink system" The cost of the equipment runs about $500 and the monthly service is $99/month with no data cap at this time. For those living in rural Douglas County outside the reach of other internet providers like DFN, Charter, etc, Starlink is now becoming a viable option.
