Lauren Sandfort Wins The 2021 Future First Citizen Award
Lauren Sandfort won the 2021 Future First Citizen Scholarship Award Tuesday night at the Roseburg High School Foundation Scholarship Night. The RHS Foundation partners along with contributions from community members and businesses to sponsor the Future First Citizen Scholarship. Sandfort won the top award which is $10,000 towards a scholarship. “First, I would like to thank all of the donors and the RHS Foundation for making this opportunity possible," Lauren Sandfort said. "I would also like to congratulate all of the scholarship recipients from last night. Each student is so deserving. I am more than excited to be the 2021 Future First Citizen! I could not have done it without my family but also Sarah Reeves and Erin Lee who both originally inspired me to become a person that embodies the characteristics of a Future First Citizen.” Sandfort plans on attending Southern Utah University where she will major in Chemistry and Pre-Med. Her parents are Curt and Kristen Sandfort. Lauren boasted a 4.0 GPA and plans on becoming a Doctor or Dermatologist. Lauren has been active as the RHS Interact Club President, Africa Heartwood Project fundraiser with the Interact Club, National Honor Society Secretary, RHS Link Crew Leader, Co-Captain RHS Varsity Tennis, Co-Captain RHS Varsity Golf, RHS Clothing Closet volunteer, and a volunteer with the Oregon Junior Golf 100 Hole Fundraiser. Camille Dela Cruz, Jane Harvey, Rachel Bober, and Stephanie Way were the other finalists who will each receive $4,000 towards a scholarship. "I think it's pretty important for us to recognize the excellence that exists in our youth," RHS Foundation president Brian Prawitz said. "Outside of state championships or competitions for a variety of talents, this gives us a chance to reward not just great academic achievement, but all-around excellence."
