Community Volunteers Continue Work Projects at the Stewart Park Ponds
Eleven volunteers showed up on Saturday morning to continue several projects being worked on at the ponds in Stewart Park. More bark chips were spread out in front of the north pond to help the area retain moisture, especially around the new plants that were recently put in. Bark mulch was spread around the new plants and flowers by the information kiosk to help keep moisture in and ground surface temperatures down to help the new plants get established going through the summer. Lots of pruning also took place removing invasive plants and blackberry bushes in the area. The group was able to fill a 20-yard dumpster full. We also were able to paint the observation deck between the north and south pond. It was also an exciting day as the new irrigation for the area is now up and running to keep all the new plants and trees watered through the spring and summer! Big thank you to all the volunteers that showed up and helped out, to Luann Urban for providing refreshments and support, and City of Roseburg Parks Department workers for their support in pulling this off. We are making lots of progress and it’s really starting to come together! There will be more work days coming up and we’ll keep you posted!
