New Wildfire Starts Along Highway 138 Near Steamboat

A new wildfire started Monday afternoon around 5pm between miles 41-42 about 24 miles east of Glide along Highway 138. Estimates of the fire size are 50-100 acres at this time and it is in rugged terrain. The fire has been named "Jack Fire". Here is the latest release from Umpqua National Forest: "The Umpqua NF has reported a fire west of Diamond Lake. It is reported to be 50 acres and in rugged terrain. Firefighters are on scene and working to fully suppress this fire as quickly and safely as possible. ODOT is en route and Diamond Lake Highway (State Road 138) will be closed until conditions improve. A Type 3 team is inbound with additional capabilities as well as air support. More information will be released as its available." ODOT: SW Oregon: OR 138E, North Umpqua Highway, Due to wildfire, the highway is closed to traffic between MP 40 (Steamboat) and 47 (Dry Creek Store). No estimated time on reopening.
