Jack Creek Fire Jumps the River, Nearly Doubles in Size to 4,224 Acres

The Jack Creek Fire jumped the North Umpqua River to the south yesterday and has grown to 4,224 acres. The fire is 0% contained. According to Umpqua National Forest, yesterday, firefighters began using direct and indirect suppression tactics to hold the fire west of milepost 45 on Hwy 138. Resources currently assigned include 200 personnel: 9 engines, 7 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 3 heavy lift helicopters, 1 light helicopter, and 1 dozer. Road Closure Update from ODOT: A wildfire is in the area. Use an alternate route. Oregon 138E (North Umpqua Highway) MP 38.5-55: OR138E remains closed due to the Jack Fire between Steamboat and Slide Creek. ODOT has set an eastside ‘soft closure’ checkpoint at Lemolo Lake junction to allow for local access into nearby recreation areas, including Lemolo Lake.
