Large Fire Breaks Out in Weed California, Dozens of Homes Burned

A fire is burning in Weed California right now and has already consumed dozens of homes and a large warehouse building at the Roseburg Forest Products mill where the fire reportedly originated. The fire started at 12:49 and was 1,228 acres as of about 2:30 pm. 7 am Sat morning update: FIRIS just released these acreages: Mill Fire = 3,980 acres 20% contained - minimal growth overnight Mountain Fire = 3,395 acres 5% contained - significant growth overnight. Update 5:10 CAL FIRE officials in Siskiyou County said the Mill Fire has been confirmed at 2,580 acres with 0%containment. Update 4:50 pm: A new fire several miles west of the Mill Fire has just started and has exploded to 75 acres in size already. Calling it the Mountain Fire. Three tankers were requested for this one. Update 4:45 pm: tons of aircraft are working this fire from helicopters to tankers. Update 4 pm: According to a neighboring homeowner, (and video)the fire first started at the old green warehouse building at Roseburg Forest Products. (burning building seen in photos below) The fire then burned several miles north including through a few residential areas.  Update 3:44 Looking closely at a video at least 63 homes have burned just in the neighborhood to the north of the RFP warehouse where the fire was seen starting. Update 3:15 pm - lots of homes are burning in Weed. Very bad situation unfolding. Update 2:55 pm. The fire is now 4 miles north of where it started and has already burned 1,228 acres as of 2:30 pm mapping. Very bad situation with lots of homes burning. A Roseburg Forest products warehouse in Weed California is burning right now. Now a wildfire is burning into the town of Weed. Weed is under mandatory evacuation.
