3 Roseburg Athletes Headed to State After Day 1 of Southwest District Track Meet

The Southwest Conference District Track Meet in Grants Pass started this afternoon with some impressive performances from Roseburg High School athletes, setting the stage for an exciting final day this coming Saturday. Already, three Roseburg athletes, Timothy Johnson for 3000 meters, Emmet Kalar for javelin, and Bridget Brooksby for pole vault are all headed to the State track meet after their performances Thursday afternoon. On the boys' team, senior Emmett Kalar was exceptional, winning the Javelin Varsity Finals with a season's best throw of 166' 9". Junior Timothy Johnson followed suit by taking first place in the 3000 Meters event, setting a personal record with a time of 8:50.84. Another junior, Peyton Fisher, stood out by securing third place in the 800 Meters preliminaries with a personal record of 2:00.73. In the girls' events, Faith Gaines performed well, taking fifth place in the 400 Meters preliminaries with a season's best time of 1:02.21. Senior Corinne Childers ran very well and secured third place in the 800 Meters prelims, achieving a personal record of 2:28.17. In the Pole Vault Varsity Finals, sophomore Bridget Brooksby achieved second place with a notable vault of 8' 10". Amy Whitney also had a personal record in the shot put throwing 30' 8 and finishing in 6th place. The final day of districts is this Saturday in Grants Pass!
