Legacy Lives On: Insurance Agent Settles in Vintage Roseburg Office

ROSEBURG, OR - A 1944-era home-turned-business on 2776 NE Diamond Lake Blvd is getting a new lease on life, and the man taking up the reins shares not only the same name but the same dedication to the community as its previous occupant. Rusty Mentes, an established insurance agent, has moved his thriving business into the building previously owned by Rusty Willeford, a much-loved Country Financial representative who tragically lost his battle with ALS in 2021. Originally, it’s believed the home was constructed for logger housing, the vintage property has seen various transformations over the years, including stints as a realty office and a family-run insurance firm. While the building's footprint mirrors many others in the area, this one stands apart due to its compelling story. Willeford, the previous owner, was known as much for his infectious smile and community involvement as his prowess in insurance, particularly farm coverage. He was an ardent horse lover, raising quality horses and earning himself a reputation as a 'horse whisperer.' His passion for building lifelong relationships with clients while addressing their insurance needs was exemplary. In homage to Willeford, Mentes aims to carry the torch forward in a similar vein. He said, "I am grateful to be in the same place Rusty was. It is so cool to me to know that I share the first name and represent the same company he did. I too have a growing family and work hard for them." Mentes has breathed new life into the structure, updating both the inside and outside while maintaining an open, inviting floor plan. The move to this new location was motivated by Mentes' search for a new office space as his lease came to an end. He fondly recalls the building's great location and is excited to take the legacy forward.
