Fire Crews Mopping Up 10 Acre Cedar Creek Fire in the Callahans
3:35 AM · Jun 26, 2023(Updated Tuesday, June 26, 6:11 pm) Responding crews are making great mop-up progress on the now-confirmed 10.2-acre Cedar Creek Fire, located in the Callahan Mountains in Douglas County. The landowner’s heavy equipment has aided in the intensive mop-up progress throughout the day. Dayshift will remain on the scene until the night shift takes over at 7 pm. The same number of resources will return to continue mopping up the fire tomorrow. Tomorrow’s progress will determine the planning and required resources needed for the next several days. As mop-up continues, minimal smoke may be visible in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. ---------------------- (Update Monday June 26)On Sunday, June 25, 2023, at approximately 5:15 pm., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DPFA), Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), and landowner resources responded to an estimated 10-acre fire located in fell and buck timber near Bear Creek in the Callahans of Douglas County, OR on private property. The responding crew’s aggressive initial attack knocked down the forward spread with minimal damage to the standing timber. Nightshift trailed 95% and plumbed 100% of the fire with water. 2 contract crews of 20 people each, 2 tenders, 2 squads, and 2 additional DFPA engines rotated into action this morning, June 26, 2023, and completed handlining the remaining 5% and have achieved 15% mop up as of 11:30 am. Crews will continue to progress throughout the day and a final update will be shared later tonight. The cause of this fire is currently under active investigation. Smoke may be seen in the area as crews continue to mop up. No homes or structures were threatened by this fire. We would like to thank all resources for their quick response and immediate action.
