Fire Crews Respond to 8 Acre Fire in Umpqua Near Tyee Road
12:30 AM · Jul 16, 2023Little Wolf Fire, Umpqua, OR: On Saturday, July 15, 2023, at approximately 1:17 pm., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Douglas County Fire District #2, Sutherlin Fire Department, Winston-Dillard Fire District, Kellogg Rural Fire Protection District, and Oakland Rural Fire District responded to an estimated 6-acre fire located in a rock quarry near Tyee Road in Umpqua, OR. Firefighters are currently actively engaged in an aggressive initial attack. DFPA’s resources include 3 squads, 6 engines, 1 dozer, 3 helicopters, and 1 air attack. Additional resources have been ordered to help continue response throughout the night. Currently, the fire is holding, with about an estimated 8 acres in the timber and brush. Hose lays have been placed around the head, heel, and right flank, with active progress on the left. Helicopters are doing great work and will continue until released from the fire. We would like to emphasize the importance of refraining from any recreational activities that include fire, heat, or sparks. With the current heat advisory, dry weather, and gusty winds, the potential for wildfires is HIGH. The cause of this fire is currently under active investigation and is human-caused. For public and first responder safety, we are asking the public to avoid the area. At this time, there are no homes or structures threatened by this fire.
