Almost 100 Came Out for River Cleanup Event This Morning

11:11 PM · Jan 20, 2020

Approximately 100 volunteers and from the community came out this morning for the Umpqua Watersheds MLK River cleanup and invasive species removal project. Volunteers scoured Gaddis Park and the areas along the multi-use path down to the river for garbage and litter. Truck-loads of garbage were removed from along the banks of the river. We even climbed into the blackberry bushes and cut out a shopping cart that had probably been there for years. Lots of volunteers helped remove invasive species like hawthorn and Himalayan blackberry from along the banks as well. It was awesome to see so many people and organizations from the community all work together to clean up our community and help protect our rivers and parks. Excellent work everyone, and thank you to all the organizers!
