Oregon Announces First Coronavirus Death; Saturday Update

In very sad news tonight Oregon officials have announced that a 70 year old veteran has passed away four days after contracting the Coronavirus. The man was living at the Portland Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center. Oregon now has a total of 36 people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, after the Oregon Health Authority announced six new presumptive positive cases of the novel coronavirus as of 10:30 a.m. today. OHA confirmed 3 new cases in Washington County, 2 new cases in Deschutes County, and 1 new case in Linn County. The Linn County case is at the Veterans’ Home in Lebanon. One of the Deschutes County cases involved travel to a country where the virus is actively spreading. The remaining cases are believed to be community spread. As a reminder, due to a lack of testing, the actual number of cases throughout the state is estimated to be significantly higher. Washington The state Department of Health announced 60 new cases Saturday, bringing the state total to 643. A total of 40 people in Washington state are known to have died from the disease.
