Family Wellness Wonderland Returns

1:14 AM · Dec 17, 2022

Family Wellness Wonderland is back for the second year. The event will have free food, COVID boosters, Santa, and games at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Creating Community Resilience Coalition (CCR), a collaboration between 11 organizations including Aviva Health, are hosting the free event, which is meant to show families that learning more about health and wellness – and living healthier lives – can be fun. “The success of the first Family Wellness Wonderland event motivated us to bring it back again this year,” said CCR Coalition Manager Rachel Gustafson. “Our health is impacted by many things and our goal is to help people learn about and connect to the many great resources in our community that can support our well-being. Vaccines are part of what helps a community be healthy, but so is access to healthy food, high quality early childhood education, parenting support, mental health services, and physical activity. We are excited to have so many community groups join in our event to celebrate health.” Aviva Health will be helping to sign people up for the Oregon Health Plan and will be offering a comprehensive vaccine clinic including all childhood vaccines, flu vaccines, and COVID-19 vaccines (ages 5 and up) including COVID boosters. “One of the most effective ways of accomplishing the goal of improved health is through increased vaccinations for children and adults,” according to Christin Rutledge, Community Health and AHECSW Director at Aviva Health. “We are happy to offer families another place to learn more about immunizations, including against COVID-19. “ Attendees interested in vaccine services do not need to be Aviva patients, but an ID and insurance card are required. Family Wellness Wonderland will feature booths from CCR member organizations as well as other community partners offering information about topics like nutrition, home visiting programs, STEAM learning, mental health providers, and disaster preparedness. There will be plenty of games and activities. Creating Community Resilience is a coalition of nonprofits dedicated to making Douglas County a healthier place for all.
