Road Safety Project on Garden Valley Road

Road maintenance and a public safety project will affect traffic on Garden Valley road starting March 9. The Douglas County Public Works Department in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management will be working on the project on Garden Valley Road between mileposts 11 and 12 as part of the annual road improvement plans according to a press release from the County. The project is in between Fort McKay Road and Del Rio Road on Garden Valley Road. Road crews and flaggers plan to be on location for active work hours Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Garden Valley Road will be open to all lanes of traffic outside of these working hours. The anticipated completion date is Friday, March 24, 2023, however, as with any project, the schedule is subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen supply issues. The annual road improvement plans are designed to continue to provide safe and accessible roads in Douglas County for residents and visitors. Intermittent road closures are anticipated throughout the project as crews will be cutting and removing hazard trees, limbs and debris from the roadway. Traffic might be delayed for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes if travel is planned through this area during active work hours. Suggested detour for traffic traveling south on Garden Valley Road would be Fort McKay Road to I-5 South towards Roseburg. Traffic heading north on Garden Valley Road can utilize Del Rio Road to I-5 North towards Sutherlin as a detour. Safety is always a priority for the motoring public, as well as for construction workers. Road construction projects will impact drive times, so plan accordingly.
