Chilcoot Fire Grows to 1,390 Acres, Community Meeting Set for Tonight
11:53 PM · Aug 30, 2023The Chilcoot Fire is currently at 1,390 acres and 0% containment in the U.S. Forest Service - Umpqua National Forest. Handline construction along the 3806 Road was completed along with strengthening of the already established lines around the spot fires on the northeast side. Firefighters, working closely with local forest Resource Advisors (READ), have secured line around the Chilcoot Repeater site as well as other cultural and natural resources. Yesterday’s cooler temperatures and elevated relative humidities aided firefighters. The inversion layer lifted earlier, allowing aircraft to support the Chilcoot for a good portion of the day. Additional equipment and personnel have arrived at the incident, with more on order. These additional crews will be divided into day and night shifts, increasing the 24-hour suppression activities. Community Meeting Wednesday Night at 7 pm, join the California Interagency Incident Management Team 12 (CAIIMT12) for a community meeting on the Chilcoot and Ridge Fires.
