Dixon Fire Morning Update - August 14: Air Support Vital to Dixon Fire Suppression Efforts
7:29 PM · Aug 14, 2024DAYS CREEK, Ore. – The Dixon Fire has remained active along the southern edge, with crews working through the night to hold control lines and protect area homes. ➡️Today, crews will continue to rely heavily on air assets to support suppression efforts. Air support has been integral to holding the fire, providing necessary water drops to ground crews working on the active edge. On FSRD 1610 and the 100-spur road, crews will be extending mop up and extinguishing available fuels within the fire perimeter. Crews are using hand lines, dozer lines, pumps and portable water sources to assist with this task. Falling modules will continue to remove hazard trees along Tiller Trail Highway. In Drew, crews are completing surface preparation work around structures, clearing away receptive fuels and moving combustibles away from buildings. This response tool mobilizes mutual aid resources for 72-hours, to provide short-term surge capacity to an incident ahead of conflagration declaration. This task force was replaced by a Multnomah County Task Force. ➡️Community Meeting: There is a community meeting tonight, Wednesday, August 14th at 7pm at the South Umpqua Community Church.
