Fire Burns Small Area Next to I-5 and Multi-Use Path Early Friday Morning

Shortly before 6am this morning, a fire was reported next to I-5, just north of the South Umpqua River on the west side of the bridge next to the multi-use path. It burned a small hill next with some trees in it. When I stopped by this afternoon, there was an illegal camp immediately to the north, almost touching the burned out area. There was one occupant in the camp and a dog. It is unclear at this time how the fire was started and I will update this story when more information is made available.
