Today, Sunday, August 27, 2023, at approximately 7:05 pm, crews from Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Douglas County Fire District #2, and Lookingglass Rural Fire District responded to a ½ acre fire located near the 500 block of Sunrise Lane in Roseburg, Oregon. 

The fire was smoldering in dead and down trees and emitting a column that was visible in the Melrose area. Responding firefighters knocked the forward spread of the fire down quickly and as of 8:10 p.m.,  have the fire 100% plumbed and 50% lined. This fire will be in mop-up shortly, then transferred into patrol status. There will not be an additional update shared for this fire. The cause is currently under investigation. 

There are no homes or structures threatened by this fire. 

There are NO evacuations in place for this area or for Melrose. 
As we know that this is a heightened time for everyone impacted by the complex fire, for everyone’s safety, we would like to remind the Douglas District that evacuations in the county are officially announced and managed by our local Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
