Fire Last Night Heavily Damages Hucrest Home
At 7:49pm, Roseburg Fire Department responded to a fire on Utah Street off of Kline in Hucrest. Smoke was billowing out of the two story house when firefighters arrived, but fortunately the 2 adults, 4 children and the family's service dog were all able to evacuate safely. Another family in the neighborhood immediately reached out to provide another place for the displaced family to stay. Red Cross also showed up to help the family. I stopped by shortly after the fire was out and was very encouraged by how other neighbors had already reached out and were helping the family. It was very awesome to see. While we were standing there, one of the family's sweet cats walked up and let us know he was ok. He wasn't so sure about the firetrucks so I held him for a while and then took him up to his food dish. That seemed to make him happy. I talked to the homeowner and said to let us know if there is anything we can do for them and I will keep you all posted. The firefighters were there for several more hours late into the evening to make sure the fire didn't reignite in the attic just to be safe. Big thank you to them and all the other agencies that responded. Other agencies assisting with the fire included Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista, Roseburg Police Department, American Red Cross, and Pacific Power.
