McClendon's Old Fashioned Meats and Smokehouse To Open in Roseburg

McClendon's Old Fashioned Meats and Smokehouse, formerly known as Nickabob's, is set to open in their new location in Roseburg on Tuesday March 19th at 8am. The new store is located at 930 W Harvard Avenue and will bring some much needed grocery options back to the south side of Roseburg. The new store has been something owner Tim McClendon has wanted to do for a long time. So a year ago, the McClendon's purchased the former Grocery Outlet building on Harvard and started the remodel process. The store will initially use about 7,000 sq/ft of the space, which is less than half of the total space in the building. Plans for the remaining space will be announced at a future time. The new location which features and old fashioned atmosphere, will have a produce section, more meat products, dairy products, Oregon Sourdough Bread and other bread options like tortillas, beverage options, local honey, deli meats cut fresh, increased frozen food options, spices and a few other grocery products. Tim McClendon and his wife Rhonda first started working on the Butcher Block out in Winston in 1996, and opening the store in 1997. They built that business up and sold it in 2007. Then in 2015, the McClendon's purchased Nickabob's, which was located out on Diamond Lake Blvd. The business had about 2 employees when they took over and they grew it to about 14 employees prior to the transition to their new location on Harvard Ave. The new location will likely have around 20 employees, and they are still hiring and accepting applications. The name of the business was changed quite a while ago, but the Nickabob's nickname has kind of hung around for years. With the move to the new location, along with several other family members joining the business, the McClendon's decided to make the name change more public. "This is going to be a family legacy for us for generations to come for my son Dakota and his wife Dani, our son Zac and wife Robin." McClendon said McClendon knows it can be difficult to compete with big chain competitors, but believes their is still lots of room to serve their local customers. "We pride themselves in customer service, we want our employees to have that relationship with our customers, that creates that deep bond with the community." McClendon said. On the eve of opening the new store, McClendon is excited. "I am ecstatic about opening tomorrow, it's been a long time coming, and I hope the community supports us. This has been my vision since I was younger, designing this, and making something the community is going to like."
