The Roseburg Lacrosse Club could clinch its first OHSLA Southwest Conference championship in over a decade when it hosts South Eugene in its final home game Friday, May 8, at Finlay Field on the Roseburg High School campus. The night will also honor the program's nine graduating seniors, with senior night activities beginning no later than 7 p.m. and game action set to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The boys team enters the week at 5-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall, ranked 21st in the state by the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association. A favorable result on May 1 would set up Friday's Senior Night as a conference title game, according to the club. Roseburg last won the Southwest Conference in 2013.

The team built momentum with a come-from-behind 12-7 home victory over Sheldon earlier this week, rallying after falling behind early.

Friday's game will double as Senior Night, honoring nine graduating players. A banner display at the field features each senior, including Corey Kimball, Aiden Nutter, Robbie Ashley, Colby Batchelor, Zeke Lander, Drea Burwell, Cruz Dirksen, Peyton Sharpless Tate, Jaden Gemmerle, according to photos provided by the club.

Though the Roseburg Lacrosse Club partners with Roseburg High School, lacrosse is not yet sanctioned by the Oregon School Activities Association. That means the program receives no school funding. Coach stipends, safety equipment, uniforms, tournament fees, referee costs, and away game meals all come from sponsors and fundraising, according to the club.

The club is holding a fundraiser and tailgate event Monday, May 4, at Mountain Mike's Pizza, with music, games, and a chance to meet players and coaches. Community members who mention Roseburg Lacrosse when ordering between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. that day will have 20 percent of their purchase donated to the club.

For board president Jade Parsons, the club carries deeply personal significance. Her son played goalie for Roseburg from middle school through high school before the family lost him to suicide in January 2024, when he was a senior preparing for his final season.

"Lacrosse was something he loved, and the field is where we saw our quiet kid come to life," Parsons said. "He was dedicated to the sport year-round and led and inspired his team when he was in goal."

Parsons said the lacrosse community across Oregon rallied around her family after their loss. That support motivated her to take on the club presidency. The Oregon High School Lacrosse Association is promoting Mental Health Month and suicide awareness at games and on social media next week, in part because of the Parsons family's experience and others within the lacrosse community, according to Parsons.

"This is more than just a sports team for many of us," she said.

Wingstop plans to open their new restaurant in Roseburg this summer at 2040 NW Stewart Pkwy., with an opening window of late June to early July, according to Wingstop spokesperson Lauren Gracey.

"Wingstop is excited to expand our footprint in Oregon and bring our signature flavor to Roseburg," Lauren Gracey said in a statement.

The restaurant will be franchisee owned and operated. The chain currently operates 15 Oregon locations, all concentrated in the Willamette Valley and Portland metro area, from McMinnville north to Hillsboro and east to Gresham. Eugene and Springfield represent the chain's southernmost presence in the state. The Roseburg restaurant would extend that reach roughly 70 miles further south along the I-5 corridor.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Rooted in place and responsive to both the opportunities and challenges shaping Roseburg, The Ford Family Foundation has announced the creation of the Hometown Fund, dedicated to supporting visionary, catalytic community projects that will transform the heart of our city. Over the next ten years, this $10 million fund will support projects that unite partners across sectors and help turn community vision into action.

"We're following the community's lead," said Kara Inae Carlisle, president and CEO of The Ford Family Foundation. "There's real energy behind efforts to bring new life to Roseburg. We want to invest in the efforts already under way and inspire others to be part of what comes next."

For more than 30 years, the Foundation has been headquartered in Roseburg. Our founders, Kenneth Ford and Hallie Ford, lived in Laurelwood and actively volunteered and reinvested in our community. In 1957, they created a charitable foundation to give back to those who helped build their successful company, Roseburg Lumber (now Roseburg Forest Products). To this day, The Ford Family Foundation remains committed to the legacy of supporting kids, families and the community through grants, scholarships, leadership programs and local partnerships.

"There is momentum building here in Roseburg, and we are excited to be a part of it," said Max Gimbel, director of rural community building. "Even as our community faces challenges, we see broad community leadership rolling up their sleeves to make this a thriving and desirable place to live. We see residents volunteering their time and talents, as well as major organizations, institutions, city and tribal governments aligning their visions and investments."

Each year, we invest millions of dollars in Douglas County. These investments will continue. The Hometown Fund will operate in addition to our longstanding open grants program, meaning there is no wrong door for potential applicants. And while focused on Roseburg, the intention is for this investment to have ripple effects across Douglas County and to neighboring communities.

The Foundation will consider large capital requests up to $1 million as well as pre-development planning requests up to $75,000. Projects must be located within Roseburg city limits, with a special interest in the corridor connecting downtown to Stewart Parkway.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Rooted in place and responsive to both the opportunities and challenges shaping Roseburg, The Ford Family Foundation has announced the creation of the Hometown Fund, dedicated to supporting visionary, catalytic community projects that will transform the heart of our city. Over the next ten years, this $10 million fund will support projects that unite partners across sectors and help turn community vision into action.

"We're following the community's lead," said Kara Inae Carlisle, president and CEO of The Ford Family Foundation. "There's real energy behind efforts to bring new life to Roseburg. We want to invest in the efforts already under way and inspire others to be part of what comes next."

For more than 30 years, the Foundation has been headquartered in Roseburg. Our founders, Kenneth Ford and Hallie Ford, lived in Laurelwood and actively volunteered and reinvested in our community. In 1957, they created a charitable foundation to give back to those who helped build their successful company, Roseburg Lumber (now Roseburg Forest Products).
