Spring Season Begins at Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards

We recently reached out to Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards to hear what’s ahead this spring and summer. They shared what visitors can look forward to — and gave us a glimpse into the history of their vineyard and winery. "Before the vineyard and winery, Stephen and Gloria Reustle owned a successful marketing company based in Philadelphia that taught them the value of providing world-class products to a loyal customer base. However, having a farming background and a love for wine, Stephen had always dreamed of owning a vineyard and winery. Selling their marketing firm, the Reustles moved to the West Coast in hopes of finding an ideal location to start their vineyard. After an extensive search, the Reustles eventually purchased property in Oregon's Umpqua Valley in early 2000. Residing at the highest point of this new picturesque property stood a Volkswagen-sized boulder, shaded by a single solitary oak tree overlooking the dramatic Callahan Mountains. This humble boulder would soon become the namesake of the vineyard and winery, being named ‘Prayer Rock’ after Stephen and his 4-year-old son, Walter, began a daily habit of 'praying at the rock' before priming the irrigation lines. The first vintage of wine was crafted in 2004 within Stephen's newly established winery (also affectionately referred to as his garage). While the tasting room and winery were modest in size and appearance, the Reustles witnessed exponential growth, attracting new visitors and wine club members from both near and far. Recognizing the need for additional space, Stephen embarked on fulfilling a dream he had from the very beginning—a wine cave. Built in 2008, the Wine Cave and New Winery were modeled after old European architecture. Today, the winery produces approximately 7,000 cases of wine annually from 15 different estate-grown varietals planted on 40 vineyard acres. And the success of the winery has been stunning, winning numerous medals and accolades, including ‘Winery of the Year’ recognition 7 times." — Walter Reustle, Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards. "Pruning of both Prayer Rock and Romancing Rock Vineyards has been completed. The bottling of 2024 White wines has concluded, and we are waiting for bud break on the vines. We are entering our event season, which consists of live music on the patio, concerts, dinner's and more. The Tasting Room is open Monday-Saturday from 10 AM-5 PM. People can expect a sit-down wine tasting experience in our wine cave with their own Wine Educator. Our Wine Educators will take your party through a guided food and wine pairing and answer any questions regarding the wine, the estate, and the history of Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards. We offer three different tasting options: Signature, Reserve, and Heirloom. Signature Flight consists of 3 current release estate wines and one bonus pour with a cheese course. Reserve Flight features 4 reserve or black label wines plus one bonus pour with elevated appetizer pairings. The Heirloom Flights features 4 special release or library wines plus a bonus pour. This flight comes with a personal charcuterie board.
