Support Local Hunger Relief Efforts and Learn About the Green Bag Program
6:51 PM · Aug 23, 2024Join the Zonta Club of Roseburg on Wednesday, August 28th, to learn about an easy way to help others. The program will start at noon at the Abby’s Legendary Pizza Annex on Stephens. Jenn Reida, Executive Director of the FISH of Roseburg Food Pantry, will discuss the Roseburg Food Project, commonly known as the Green Bag Program. During these times of tighter budgets and busy schedules, the Green Bag Program is an incredibly easy way to help others, noted Reida. Over the course of two months, you simply buy an extra can of beans, a bag of noodles, or a box of cereal each time you go grocery shopping. You add that purchase to your green grocery bag. Then, at the end of two months, you have a bag of food that helps feed low-income families or those needing help between paychecks. The Green Bags, in addition to other FISH Program items, help feed over 2,500 people per month. Traditionally, this is a neighborhood program, and FISH provides a coordinator who supplies and picks up the Green Bags. There are also options to create a “neighborhood” that is a group of friends, a business, or a club. Individuals can also donate. Join us on August 28th to learn more. Zonta is an organization that helps create a better world for women and girls. Locally, the club helps educate our youth about human trafficking, provides undergarments to women forced to flee their homes due to abuse, and is spreading the word to say NO to violence against women.
