The Injured Duck Has Been Released Back Into the Wild!

Back towards the end of September my son Abraham captured an injured duck at the Roseburg Duck Pond that had fishing line wrapped all around its right foot. It was his first "critter carry" for Umpqua Wildlife Rescue. From there the Duck went to Brenda at UWR, and then Ann from UWR and Abraham took the duck down to Dr. Tammy, a veterinarian down in Myrtle Creek and Canyonville. Dr. Tammy removed all the fishing line and treated and wrapped the wound. After that the duck went back to Brenda for rehab. Eventually the duck was transitioned out to Diana with UWR who has an outdoor flight cage with a small pool. This was after the wound had healed sufficiently. Late this afternoon, Ann, Abraham and I went and picked up the Duck and returned him to the Duck Pond where he was successfully released back into the wild. After not flying for three weeks, he immediately flew all the way across the pond and landed in the water. It was a beautiful sight! He can now walk and put full weight on both legs :) I want to again thank all the volunteers at Umpqua Wildlife Rescue, Dr. Tammy for all your help and Abraham for working so hard to catch him so his foot could be saved. Great work everyone! We will share the video of the release soon!
