The North Camp in Winchester Has Been Cleaned Up!

Sixteen people from all over Douglas County came together today and cleaned up an enormous amount of garbage in a camp located in Winchester off of NE Stephens. Approximately 50 yards of garbage was cleaned up and disposed of during the 4 hour cleanup. The biggest challenge was moving all the garbage over a hundred yards from where it sat to the dumpsters. Fortunately Randy Hougan showed up with his Bobcat tractor with a bucket on it and ran loads of garbage back and forth the entire time. We also uses Nate Frosland’s jeep and trailer to run loads back and forth continuously. John Steward also drove loads with his truck to the dumpster. I want to give an enormous shoutout to all the volunteers that came out and put an enormous amount of effort into cleaning this camp up. The staggering amount of garbage and filth that we moved today had been sitting there for five years. One of the most amazing things was how far people travelled to help. They came from east of Canyonville to our south and as far north as Oakland. It was very moving seeing their desire to help our community out. I want to thank Nate Frosland for all your help in organizing this event, as well as you and Memorie Froslands help documenting before, during and after the cleanup. Randy, thank you for bringing that tractor, you definitely helped save the day. John, thanks for being willing to take truckloads back and forth all day. City Councilor Ashley Hicks, thank you for all your help today, and for all the work you have put in cleaning up this community. Nicole, Curtis, Chelsy, Marilee, Chad, Valerie, Kevin, Megan Abraham and I’m forgetting a few, you all are awesome. Thank you for coming out and sticking with it until the end! Also want to thank the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for all your help as well as Umpqua Sheet Metal. Still lots more work to do, but we are making lots of progress. We will let you all know when we do our next cleanup. Appreciate you all!
